LOCAL MOMS SUPPORT
LAURA ANN LEWIS (DEMOCRAT) FOR MASON COUNTY COMMISSIONER DISTRICT 3.
Campaign
team is comprised of six ‘thirty-something’ women - five are Shelton
mothers.
Shelton small business owner, Laura Ann Lewis, is
running for Mason County Commissioner District 3 as a Democratic Party
Candidate.
Lewis recently rose to the attention of Mason County
as the married mother of two that graces the newspaper ads, handouts and www.IncineratorFreeMasonCounty.org website for the nonprofit
Incinerator Free Mason County, which she helped to found with other area
residents opposed to the proposed ADAGE LLC biomass energy plant.
“With
the number of critical projects in progress in the County, I believe
the budget stretching skills of a small business owner, and dare I say
the lie spotting oversight and management skills of a working Mother,
will be some of my key assets to assure fairness and equity of the
public’s resources,” says Lewis.
“I have lived in Mason County
for 20 years. My husband Paul and I both attended school here and
decided we want the same for our two sons. Mason County is home.” Lewis
owns the custom cake business, Sugar Cakes, in Shelton. She has been
active locally, attending County Commissioner, Port of Shelton, and
other local government forums. Lewis is a member of the Mason County
Democrats, and a volunteer outreach coordinator for the nonprofit
Incinerator Free Mason County.
“It’s morally wrong for an
elected official to place personal gain and private agendas before the
welfare of the taxpayers that they are elected to represent. It’s vital
that our county commissioners be open and communicate with the community
that they are representing, and I think it really helps if they’re part
of the working class neighborhoods they represent,” says Maitri
Edwards, Campaign Manager for Lewis and Shelton mother of two.
“Laura
does her homework. Based on the ‘I’m still looking into it’ message we
keep hearing from our current elected officials with regard to ADAGE, we
Moms apparently already know far more about the science and economics
of the proposed incinerator and what a bad fit it is for the county,”
says Paulina Larson, Campaign Treasurer for Lewis and Shelton mother of
one.
“We all know that our current economic crisis makes it more
important than ever to bring family wage jobs into our community. But
we can do this without sacrificing our health. One way is to make it
easier for small business owners to open their businesses, not foreign
owned multi-national corporations. Laura started her own business here,
she knows the ropes, and a hundred things that we could be doing better
to help us all realize our dreams as Shelton residents,” says Alana
Black, Campaign Fundraiser for Lewis and Shelton mother of two.
“We’re
just getting started. This campaign is pure American grassroots, and is
being run on the local donations of Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton, and
Jackson – we could really use the help of some Benjamin Franklins so we
can make the candidate filing fee of $760!” says Black.
“Ensuring
the protection of the health of Hood Canal and South Puget Sound is
what Mason County gets with Laura Lewis as County Commissioner. She has
spent a good deal of her recreational life in our local forests, lakes
and waterways – Laura walks her talk,” says Lonni Rickard, Voter
Outreach Coordinator for Lewis and Shelton mother of one.
“The
best way to get involved right now is to join our facebook group at

Communications Director for Lewis.
