Citizens of Mason County
My name is Laura Ann Lewis and I have lived in Mason County for 20 years. My husband and I both attended schools in Mason County and we are now raising our two young sons here. I have been a stay at home mom for seven years and have recently started a custom cake business, Sugar Cakes, in Shelton.
I became
involved with county government when I heard about the proposed Adage
plant. I have since learned much more about how our county is run. I
have been concerned for a long time about how the politics work in
our country. I do not feel it is in the best interest for our
citizens to be at the mercy of career politicians. I believe it is
morally wrong to place personal gain and private agendas before the
welfare of the tax payers you are elected to represent. I think as a
county commissioner it is vital to be open and communicate with the
community that you are representing. I also believe in doing your
homework on all topics before you cast your vote, since your vote
will impact other people’s lives. This is why I feel it is time to
bring a change to Mason County. The politicians currently in office
have their own agendas and are not looking out for our best
interests. Mason County is a beautiful place to live and I would like
to see our home become a truly healthy place. I feel it is our job
and we have a responsibility to future generations to preserve our
forests and the health of our water ways, and keep our community
moving forward.
We all know that our current economic crisis
makes it more important than ever to provide jobs for our community.
Sacrificing our community's health is never the answer. We have
had the problem in the past of major corporations coming to town,
making their messes, jumping ship and leaving us to clean up after
them. It is important to ensure that a corporation is the right fit
for our town. Does it fit the idea of what we want Shelton to stand
for? If we make it easier for small business owners to open their
businesses in Mason County and provide living wage jobs we will all
benefit. Local companies hiring local workers are what will help our
town’s economy in the long term. The temporary workers for
companies like Adage have promised, would only be fixing the here and
now, and do not address the root of the problem.
My desire to
see Mason County grow, and its families prosper has convinced me to
announce my candidacy as a Commissioner for District 3. I am excited
to learn the issues and concerns of our county. I plan on working to
find ways to balance jobs and our quality of life.
Thank
You,
Laura Ann Lewis
